Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan

On the 20th April 2015, Exmouth Town Council agreed to support the production of a Neighbourhood Plan for the whole of the parish of Exmouth and this proposal was subsequently approved by East Devon District Council on 30th June 2015.

Over the following three years, production of the Plan was overseen by an informed and hard-working Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, comprising local residents, representatives of community organisations, businesses, churches and a Councillor from each of the Town’s five wards. They ensured that there were plenty of opportunities for the wider community to contribute to the Plan and Exmouth Town Council, as the qualifying body, submitted the Exmouth Neighbourhood Development Plan to East Devon District Council in July 2018. The plan consultation period ended on 17th October 2018 and Jill Kingaby was subsequently appointed by East Devon District Council to undertake an examination of the Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan in October 2018.

The Examiner’s procedural documents, questions and any relevant responses are available to view here.

On 21st March 2019, the Plan went to referendum and residents of Exmouth voted 87.62% in favour of adopting the Plan.

A report was subsequently taken to East Devon District Council Cabinet on the 3rd April 2019 recommending that the Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan be ‘made’ so that it forms part of the Development Plan for East Devon. The date of ‘making’ the Plan was 11th April 2019.

Exmouth Town Council now owns the ‘made’ plan, which is being used in consideration of planning applications by the Town Council in its role as a statutory consultee on all Planning matters pertaining to Exmouth and for decision making by East Devon District Council.
