The University of Plymouth is still planning to put the site out to tender but delays mean that this is unlikely to happen until at least the end of the month. Work continues to promote a development brief which will provide maximum benefit for the town in terms of education, jobs and community uses. A limited company is being set up for community purposes as a vehicle to facilitate the best solution for the town. We are pressing to meet with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Plymouth to seek a more sympathetic position from her. The University's current line is 'we will suggest to potential developers of the site that they should contact Exmouth Town Council to explore possibilities'. We want the university to take a softer line on this which will show their commitment to the best solution for Exmouth and not just a commercial result for the University. We are watching the Bicton College situation with interest and how this might affect post 16 education in the area and continue to keep the matter live with Devon County Council.
